Our hydropower assets

Our hydropower plants have a total installed capacity of 1.7 GW and generate 3.2 TWh of renewable energy per year on average.

At Movhera, we believe in a strong local anchorage. We strive to have a positive impact.

Our renewable hydropower portfolio in the North of Portugal is composed of six plants, Miranda, Picote, Bemposta, Baixo Sabor, Feiticeiro, Foz Tua. They generate on average 3.4 TWh of green energy, and deliver flexibility services to the electric system, enabling the development of interruptible green energy in the country. Three plants are recently commissioned pumped storage units. The three others are run-of-the-river plants built in the fifties and sixties, and recently repowered.

Supplying baseload energy at all times.

Three recently renovated cascade run-of-the-river plants which use continuous river flow and supply base-load energy. From upstream to downstream: Miranda, Picote, Bemposta.

Offering flexibility through pumped storage.

Three recently commissioned pumped storage power stations, which operate water transfer between upper and lower reservoirs on a daily basis: the Baixo Sabor / Feiticeiro system, and Foz Tua.
